Course Description: Clients involved with the criminal ustic system often have psychosocial problems that contribute to their behaviors that resulted in their involvement with the legal system and the use abuse of substances. These psychosocial issues may include anger management issues, psychological disorders, relationship disorders, vocational deficit, and personal stress.  These issues, acute or chronic, may contribute to the initial use of substances, or the client’s involvement in the legal system. The involvement of the criminal justice system introduces an additional unique stressor that often requires the modification of mainstream psychotherapeutic and substance abuse treatment to effectively meet the needs of the clients.  This brief course is developed from SAMSHA TIP 44: Substance Abuse Treatment for Adults in the Criminal Justice System, and focuses on the major treatment issues and approaches in working with this population.
